FMDiSC Meeting this Friday July 10th

Hello again, FMDiSC members and FileMaker enthusiasts!

Our next meeting for FileMaker Developers in Southern California (FMDiSC) will be this Friday July 10th, from 9:30AM to 1:00PM. If you've never been to one of our meetings before, just feel free to show up -- no need to RSVP. We'd love to see you at the meeting! New members are always welcome!

Our first presentation ALWAYS starts PROMPTLY at 10:00 AM SHARP, so please do not come late or you will MISS something very important! To accommodate for this, we'll be doing some quick housekeeping announcements at 9:50am and then we'll immediately dive into our first presentation PROMPTLY at 10:00am SHARP.

This week, Phil Goodman will present a project management database for Kaiser Permanente that handles every piece of collateral that goes through their Marketing Communications department. It's used state-wide by about 200 people and handles about 7000-8000 projects annually. It replaces a solution originally started in FileMaker Pro 4 about 10 years ago and later upgraded to FileMaker 6. Using modern FileMaker techniques and features, it addresses their workflow needs ranging from project conception through creative development, delivery and internal financial tracking.

Then, Bob Shockey will show off a non-profit solution that solved some unique challenges by streamlining screen design. This includes a special bonus "cheat" for solving odd page-break problems for long, single-record printouts.

After that, we will be having a roundtable on the recession. Has the recession been affecting your business? Has it been affecting your clients? Has it actually opened up new opportunities? Anton Anderson will chair a round-table on how we're all dealing with the current economic times.

Then, we'll finish our meeting with a quick discussion of the DevCon sessions: What's hot. What's not.

Here is our tentative schedule of events (all times subject to change):

9:30-9:50 Setup/Breakfast/Networking
9:50-10:00 Welcome and Housekeeping
10:00-10:45 Phil Goodman's Kaiser Permanente solution
10:45-11:15 Extended break
11:15-11:30 Welcome to new members, announcements, etc.
11:30-12:00 Bob Shockey on streamlining screen design
